Draw The Sacred Geometry Of Borobudur
~ The Largest Mandala & Buddhist Compound In The World ~
Recently I had the pleasure of walking up the ancient steps of Borobudur
located in Central Java and it is with great delight to offer my drawing analysis
of the spectacular 9th century three-dimensional Mandala.
(Budur) comes from Javanese term bhudhara ("mountain").
Mountains and high places are the abode of ancestral spirits or hyangs.
The monument's three divisions symbolise the three "realms" of Buddhist cosmology,
namely
Kamadhatu
(the world of desires),
Rupadhatu
(the world of forms),
Arupadhatu
(the formless world).
Class will be complimented with slides discussing a brief synthesis on the outstanding universal value this Ancient Monument has to offer the world.
